Hotel Wants to Hear From Guests And Staff On Birthday

August 1, 2019

The George Washington marks 40th birthday with hunt for old memories.

THE George Washington hotel has appealed for former guests and staff to get in touch as it celebrates its 40th birthday later this year.

We opened our doors in September 1979 and now, in the wake of a million-pound plus refurbishment, want to celebrate the landmark.

Sandra Devlin, marketing manager at the hotel, said: “We’d love for people to get in touch with us and tell us their memories of the George or send us photographs of their stay.

“The hotel has grown a lot and changed a lot too since the 1970s, with a colourful history that we want to mark later in this year.

“Traditionally, it has been a centre for visiting football clubs and sports clubs staying overnight, something that we have been reviving, or celebrities performing in shows or visiting the region.

“But we’ve also had thousands of domestic guests and businesses through the doors over the years and no doubt hundreds of members of staff.

“We would like to hear those stories and those memories.

”We have golf club members and health club members who have been coming to us for decades now.”

The hotel plans celebrations with former members of staff and guests invited.

Ian Gray, general manager of the hotel, said: “We’re a young hotel compared to so many others but 40 years is a good milestone to celebrate because Washington itself is a relatively young town.

“The growth of the hotel has been mirrored by the growth of the local community and we want to celebrate both.”

Anyone who wants to get in touch with the George Washington with stories or photographs can ring Emma at the hotel on 0191 402 9988 or email.
